Special-interest Endodontics in Salisbury

Root canals are an incredible tooth-saving procedure that provides relief from infection and prevents your natural smile from further damage.

Infections can occur due to accidental dental trauma, deep cavities or cracked teeth. When harmful bacteria enter the inner layer of your tooth (the pulp), the resulting infection can cause swelling, bleeding, and pain.

Root Canals at Sarum Dental Practice, Wiltshire:

  • Save infected teeth from extraction
  • Relieve painful toothache
  • Stop infection spreading in the mouth
  • Prevent tooth loss

"As a nervous patient the dentist is not my favourite place to be, but Neal and his team are brilliant. Their patience and understanding makes it so much easier to go to the dentist. Everything they need to do is explained as they go along. It is thanks to their patience and expertise that my teeth are in the best place they can be."

Patient TestimonialRoot Canal Treatment

Gentle Root Canal Treatment at Sarum Dental

Root canals, or endodontic dentistry, are not the scary and painful procedures you’ve been led to believe. This treatment provides immediate relief from pain and is conducted with numbing agents and even anaesthetics if needed. All our dentists practice a gentle approach to root canal treatment and will ensure you are comfortable throughout your appointment with us.

Here’s how root canal treatment works:

  • If you suspect you need a root canal or have been referred to us, your Sarum dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination, using high-tech diagnostic imaging to assess the condition of the affected tooth.
  • Before the procedure, we’ll administer local anaesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable and pain-free during the treatment.
  • We’ll create a small opening in the tooth to reach the infected pulp underneath. Next, your Sarum dentist will gently remove the damaged tissue and clean the affected canals inside your tooth.
  • Once the canals are clean and thoroughly disinfected, we’ll seal the tooth to prevent further infection from occurring. Depending on the tooth’s condition, we may recommend you have a crown placed on top to restore strength and functionality.
  • After the procedure, any discomfort you might experience can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and should subside within a few days.

Common Signs that your Tooth Needs Root Canal Treatment

  • Abscesses and/or pus near the site of the affected tooth
  • Severe pain and discomfort
  • Inability to chew on the affected tooth
  • Extreme sensitivity to hot and cold food and drink
  • Swelling and heat near the site of infection

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we recommend contacting our dental practice in Salisbury and booking a consultation with our special interest endodontist, who can get to the root of the problem!

FAQs

Why do I need root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is needed if you’re dentist identifies a bacterial infection deep below the gum line and surrounding the tooth’s pulp. Infection and inflammation can be excruciating and can result in tooth loss if not treated.

What happens if I don’t treat an infected tooth?

A tooth infection that is left untreated can quickly spread to other areas of the mouth and body. Severe infections can result in fever, trouble swallowing and even problems breathing. It’s vital to consult your dentist if you suspect you have a tooth infection so they can treat the issue before it becomes a bigger problem.

What can I do to prevent root canal treatment?

A good oral hygiene routine is sufficient to remove any harmful plaque and tartar build-up, reducing the chance of cavities forming and infection. If your tooth has recently suffered trauma, chipping, or breaking, make sure to see your dentist as soon as possible. They will make sure the tooth is sufficiently cleaned and capped to reduce the chance of infection.

I had a great check up with Neal today, it had been a long time and he knows I am a nervous patient. I felt at ease straight away and he has given me a plan on my dental care going forward, easy to follow without being told off. I look forward to regular check ups going forward and the other staff were very helpful and happy. Thank you so much!

Our whole family switched to Sarum Dental Practice after the pandemic and have been very pleased with the professionalism and friendliness of everyone at the practice. I had a first ever extraction today and it was quick, pain-free and a total non-event due to how calmly and expertly Neal carried out the procedure.

Just completed a dental implant undertaken by Dr Rajan Mehta at Sarum Dental Practice. It has been excellent throughout. Raj explained each step thoroughly. It is great to have the tooth back after about 15 years. I would highly recommend the service.

Steve Hawkes

First class dental practice. Friendly and helpful staff - solid advice but no pressure regarding treatment. Would recommend 100%.

Catherine Morgan-Smith

Fantastic service from start to finish. I felt so well looked after by the expert team and had honestly given up hope for one of my teeth before I came here: good as new now!

Charles McGrath

Raj has been excellent in identifying problem teeth and working out treatment plans, and I'm more than happy with the fillings/crown that have been fitted. As a private patient I've been able to book appointments at very short notice which is a breath of fresh air after years of NHS dental care. Definitely worthy of five stars!

Christine Croucher

From the friendly reception staff, to the hygienist and dentists, this practice is the nicest I have ever attended. We have been here for the four years we have been in Wiltshire.

Val Potter

We are grateful to Sarum Dental Practice for the friendly, respectful and professional care we receive from their staff. Our teeth have been in use for many years and they do their utmost to keep them looking good and functioning well.

I changed NHS dentists and this one is, after one visit, MUCH better than the last. A really good service... I wrote that about 6 years ago...still a patient here and it retains my, now unswerving, loyalty. The best review I can give it is that when having treatment I have twice gone to sleep, it's fantastic here.
